چکیده

In this work, a waste-derived lignin with abundant uncondensed linkages, using accessible solvents (acetone/water mixture) and low-cost catalysts showed successful depolymerization for the production of target molecules 4-ethylphenol, 4-propyl-2,6-dimethoxyphenol 4-propyl-2-methoxyphenol. Lignin samples were obtained from sugar-cane bagasse residue by an organosolv process. Four alumina-based (Pt/Al2O3, Rh/Al2O3, Ni/Al2O3 Fe/Al2O3) used to depolymerize sugar cane (SCL) in acetone/water mixture 50/50 v/v at 573 K 20 barg hydrogen. This strategic depolymerisation-hydrogenolysis process resulted molecular weight SCL being reduced half while polydispersity also decreased. Catalysts significantly improved product yield compared thermolysis. Specific metals directed distribution yield, Rh/Al2O3 gave highest overall (13%), but selectivity given (~32% 4-ethylphenol). Mechanistic routes proposed either fragments or main polymer. evidence carbon laydown that was specific rather than catalyst. These results control over could be achievable appropriate combination catalyst, solvent mixture.

Lignin Hydrogenolysis: Improving Lignin Disassembly through Formaldehyde Stabilization

Lignocellulosic biomass is available in large quantities and constitutes an attractive feedstock for the sustainable production of bulk and fine chemicals. Although methods have been established for the conversion of its cellulosic fractions, valorization of lignin has proven to be challenging. The difficulty in disassembling lignin originates from its heterogeneous structure and its propensity...

Sugar Cane By-products as Livestock Feed

Sugar cane is one of the most successful tropical crops, with many agronomic factors in its favour such as high yield, tolerance of a wide range of soils, resistance-to pests, a perennial growth habit, and a sophisticated supportive technology providing improved varieties and cultural practices. It is still grown almost exclusively for sugar production; however, a number of alternative uses hav...

Continuous Ethanol Production Using Yeast Immobilized on Sugar-cane Stalks

Sugar-cane stalks, 2.0 cm long, were used as a support for yeast immobilization envisaging ethanol production. The assays were conducted in 38.5 L fermenters containing a bed of stalks with 50% porosity. The operational stability of the immobilized yeast, the efficiency and stability of the process, as well as the best dilution rate were evaluated. Molasses from demerara sugar production was us...

Artificial Neural Network Based Model for Forecasting Sugar Cane Production

Problem statement: The global need for alternative energy source has necessitated the exploration of vast organic agricultural products with a view of processing them for the production of ethanol in commercial quantity. To ascertain a sustainable production of ethanol from processed sugar cane, a predictive model based on non-linearity nature of its production is imperative. This is due to una...

Leaf Temperatures of Sugar Cane.

Since the results in the literature are at considerable variance regarding leaf temperatures with reference to the surrounding air temperature, the writer thought it would be of interest to check some leaf temperatures in a different section of the country from those previously reported. The investigations of CURTIS (2) were performed at Berkeley and Riverside, California, and those of CLUM (1)...
